2016-17 JOSEPH P. KENNEDY SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WINNERS

Cody Barnett is from Viper, Kentucky and completed his undergraduate degree of History and Political Science at Transylvania University before enrolling in UK’s College of Law. He has received many CALI awards and honors. He has served as a Staff Editor of the Kentucky Law Journal. Cody is also a member of the Moot Court Board, National Moot Court Team, Omicron Delta Kappa, Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Alpha Theta, and Phi Sigma Alpha. Cody hopes to take his talents to Washington D.C. and clerk for the Supreme Court upon graduation.

Akin Erol recently graduated from Transylvania University with a B.A. in Biochemistry before enrolling in the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Akin is the Community Service Chairman for the Class of 2019. He is also a member of the Health Colleges Student Diversity Services, Business in Medicine Interest Group, Global Health Initiatives by UK, Student Interest Group for Neurology. Akin has volunteered his time at God’s Pantry Food Bank, Burgers n’ Bikes, Feeders’ Cup, Jesus Prom, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass, and founded the University of Kentucky's College of Medicine’s Mustached Men team.

Claci Walls is originally from Bowling Green, Kentucky. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Biotechnology before enrolling in UK’s College of Medicine. Claci served as the DanceBlue Team Captain for the UK College of Medicine. She also serves as the Alumni Relations Officer for the UK College of Medicine and she also serves on the board of the UK College of Medicine Deans Student Committee on Admissions. In 2014 she served as the Overall DanceBlue Chair. And has volunteered her time at Partners in Caring: Medicine in Kenya Program, Kids Cancer Alliance, Indian Summer Camp, and at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

Alex Wade completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky in 2014 with a degree in Biosystems Engineering before enrolling in the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Alex serves as the co-founder of the Salvation Army Pediatric Clinic, UK College of Medicine Community Service Chair, University of Kentucky Appeals Board. Alex served as the DanceBlue College of Medicine Team Captain and Adopt-A-Family Coordinator. He was the University of Kentucky Chapter Founder for Wrap Up America. Alex has also volunteered his time at Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army, and Indian Summer Camp Kids Cancer Alliance.

Treayna Odom is originally from Columbus, Ohio. She is a Junior majoring in Accounting and minoring in Political Science. She serves as the Treasurer of the National Association of Black Accountants chapter at UK, Peer Instructor at UK, and is an Ambassador for the Business College at UK.  Treayna has volunteered her time at the Ronald McDonald House in Lexington, as well helping to feed the homeless community in Ohio. She hopes to be able to travel abroad to Great Britain in the Fall Semester of 2016.

Brooke Hasl is from Prospect, Kentucky and is currently a Sophomore at UK. Brooke is double majoring in Psychology and Theatre. She has served as a camp counselor at Camp Loucon, Honors Program Peer Mentor, and is a volunteer at Step by Step. Brooke is a member of CSF, Alpha Phi Omega. And has also been a mentor for a soccer program benefitting children with special needs. Brook hopes to be able to combine her degrees in a way that benefits the community.

Saorise Lucy hails from Alpharetta, Georgia and is currently a Sophomore at UK pursuing a degree in Nursing. She is currently a Resident Advisor as well as a member of Alpha Phi Omega, University of Kentucky Best Buddies Chapter, Lexington Youth Soccer Association TOPS Soccer, and has participated in Dance Blue raising over $400 for Pediatric Oncology.

Jackson Van Arsdale is originally from Virginia. He obtained his degree from the University of Kentucky in 2014 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology. After graduation, Jackson enrolled into the University of Kentucky Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. He played Men’s Soccer as an undergraduate at The University of Kentucky. Jackson has volunteered his time at TOPSoccer, YMCA of Central Kentucky, UK Men’s Soccer youth Programs, and God’s Pantry.

Victoria Lasley hails from Louisville, KY and is currently a sophomore pursuing a Civil Engineering degree. Victoria has volunteered her time working with many service organizations such as Dare to Care, The Nest, Kaleidoscope Adult Daycare. She is also a member of Pi Beta Phi and has participated in many philanthropy events within the Greek community.

Kate Bussell is a Lexington native currently Pursuing a Master’s of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Kentucky. Kate previously graduated from Transylvania University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. She has volunteered her time working for many service organizations including Kentucky Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Jordan Light Foundation, Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington Humane Society, and participated in Jesus Prom at Southland Christian Church. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Delta Phi, and Alpha Lambda Delta.
